Inside look at the “Grand Dame” of the Jungle

Q: The last time this home was up for sale (over 50 years ago) the realtor described it as the exotic and unique “Grand Dame” of the Jungle. Why do you think they chose that tagline?

A: I think it’s an especially good tagline to describe this home. A grand dame is often referred to as a woman of great dignity and prestige that you simply cannot forget. Once you’ve seen this home, you won’t forget it either! It’s one of the most unique and historic homes in all of St. Petersburg.

Q: The home was built in 1925 when Jungle Prada was first being developed. Its architectural features are similar to those found in our famous Vinoy Hotel, or the old Jungle Hotel (now Admiral Farragut).

A: Yes, there is so much innate artistry and craftsmanship to be found in this home. They simply don’t make anything like this anymore. Just like a well-crafted antique, it’s a true reflection of its time, and it’s stunning!

Q: This home sits on a great deal of property, how big is it?

A: The home sits on 3/4th of an acre. It’s a corner lot with an oak canopy. It stands out from other homes on the block and is a landmark for us Jungle residents.

Q: What are some of the features you love about this home?

A: Distinctive oak doors lead past an enclosed sun room to an impressive soaring 2 story living room with one wall of windows. It has rare Pecky Cypress wood beams and massive wood burning fireplace. It also has original wood floors that grace the formal dining room that overlooks a petite patio with original wall fountain.

Q: Can you think of any improvements for the home?

A: It certainly has the design of a nearly 100-year-old home. There’s a 1/2 bath and den that are just waiting to be reconfigured and transformed into “an open concept family space” that’s more suitable for today’s lifestyle. The 1/2 bath is pretty radical. I could see a buyer making adjustments or simply preserve its wonderful charm.

Q: Anything else you’d like to mention about the home?

A: Sure, It’s located in Jungle Prada, less than 4 blocks away from the beautiful waterfront of Boca Ciega Bay. I too live in the Jungle, so I can this is absolutely one of the best locations to live in all of St. Pete.

Q: Final thoughts?

A: This is an amazing home for a discriminating buyer who appreciates and desires the character and flair of a nearly century old jewel. Pictures simply don’t do it justice as there is so much fine detail to be seen. The right person will make this their dream home!
